Ocean City,
Maryland, is a destination that has consistently received 5-star ratings and
has enjoyed status as a top beach destination. This picturesque resort town on
the Atlantic coast attracts up to eight million visitors every summer with its
beaches, shopping, food, and events.
The main
action in Ocean City takes place along its famous boardwalk, home to two
amusement parks and dozens of concession stands. The oldest fixture on the
boardwalk is Ocean City's merry-go-round, which dates back to 1902, but the
boardwalk's main pavilion wasn't far behind, having been erected in 1907.
Originally, the latter contained a pool pavilion, a ballroom, and a skating
rink. Today, that space is given over to arcade games and food stalls selling
treats like salt water taffy.
The
boardwalk gives travelers many opportunities to purchase unique souvenirs, as
well, and nearby Somerset Plaza offers free Wi-Fi access for tourists who want
to catch up on their e-mail. Nights at the Ocean City boardwalk are every bit as
entertaining as days and the city hosts a number of family-oriented activities
after dark, including concerts, films, bonfires and an annual Family Olympics.
